Leading property investment firm, Starwood Capital Group has appointed QDOS-sbl Group as the IT and Telecommunications supplier and consultant for the new YOTEL Glasgow, due to open its doors early 2020.

Located in a prime city centre location opposite Glasgow’s Central Station, the new hotel will see the Westergate building on Argyle Street transformed into a 256-room hotel offering YOTEL’s unique design and technology-driven hospitality.

YOTEL’s mission statement is ‘We embrace technology to create a seamless experience’ and this new addition to the brand is no exception, combining affordable luxury ‘cabin’ accommodation with clever space-saving techniques and technological innovation. Super-fast and free WIFI is available throughout the hotel, along with relaxing mood lights, numerous charging points and smart TVs that can easily be connected to guests’ own devices.

YOTEL Glasgow offers airline-style self-check-in kiosks for quick and easy guest check-in along with ‘KOMYUNITI’ – a functional space described as ‘the beating heart of the hotel’ for guests to network, connect, work or relax. The hotel is also home to Glasgow’s first destination rooftop bar, complete with a 4-lane bowling alley.

A virtualised Mitel MiVoice 3300 MXe Hospitality Telephone System installed and commissioned by QDOS-sbl will provide a scalable, reliable communications platform to offer guests a faster, more personalised service. The system incorporates small gestures that make a big difference, remembering guest names and preferences and providing timely service, whilst protecting their privacy at all times by integrating the intuitive StayNTouch cloud based hospitality property management solution that improves productivity. The Mitel MiVoice 3300 MXe platform also allows YOTEL to simplify and accelerate their operations with communications solutions and applications that are tailored for hospitality businesses. For example, the Mitel MiVoice 3300 MXe platform will free staff from their desks using the Mitel MiCollab mobile solution that lets them serve guests, complete tasks and stay in touch while on the move. With a mobile app that’s customised for hotel processes and property features, YOTEL staff can work and communicate in real time, no matter where they are on the property, giving them freedom and flexibility to streamline workflows, reduce staff workloads and accelerate service.

QDOS-sbl will utilise Hewlett Packard servers using Hyper V technology software on which multiple virtual machines run, increasing IT agility, flexibility and scalability while making it simpler to manage and less costly to own and operate. In addition, a Hewlett Packard Core Data Network Switch Infrastructure is to be deployed. HP laptops and PC’s meet the needs of the front desk and back of house teams. Sophos Intercept X provides the industry’s most comprehensive endpoint protection built to stop the widest range of cyber threats. Microsoft Office 365 Business subscription service includes access to Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and online productivity and business services such as web conferencing, hosted email, and online storage. Office 365 enables YOTEL head office and hotel operations teams to work from anywhere as long as they have an internet connection. Being entirely cloud-based, they can access email, files and office programs from any location and any device.

With YOTEL offering complimentary, super-fast, free WIFI everywhere in the hotel, QDOS-sbl is installing a 1GB Fibre Internet Leased Line and Ruckus WIFI infrastructure that offers guests high performance everywhere, for their wired and wireless Internet devices. With a huge number of devices competing for connections; concrete walls absorbing signals; dead spots in unexpected places that drop guests connections, Ruckus wireless access points automatically adapt for interference and other problems in real time. This enables guests to use more devices, in more places, with the same great connection, from the moment they set foot on the property.

Recognising there is an increased desire amongst travellers to view personal devices on their bedroom TV screens, YOTEL offers a complete cloud-based TV solution provided by Nevaya. This includes a Google powered Chromecast solution, so the hotel can enhance their guest experience with mirrored content and wireless streaming, allowing guests to view their own device on screen and enjoy Netflix, YouTube, Spotify and other TV apps.

Simon Catterick, CEO of QDOS-sbl Group said: “We are proud to have been chosen by Starwood Capital for this exciting project. We’ve no doubt that as with the other YOTEL properties we’ve worked on in Edinburgh and Amsterdam, the new hotel in Glasgow will have the wow factor, offering a whole new hotel experience, allowing independent, tech-savvy travellers to work, meet, connect, and socialise. The solution delivered by QDOS-sbl meets YOTEL brand standard requirements for back-office systems that fulfil the current demands of busy full service hotels, with a flexible future upgrade path. Along with in-room technology offering a home-from-home experience, or better. This has all been taken into account at the YOTEL Glasgow, with systems that meet YOTEL ICT requirements, in the short, medium and longer term.”
