PPHE Hotel Group, best known for its Park Plaza brand of hotels and resorts is set to open its first premium boutique property with the launch of the 118-bedroom Holmes Hotel London. QDOS-sbl were delighted to provide telephony solutions for the new hotel, utilising the Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX Telephony platform.

Situated on London’s iconic Chiltern Street in Marylebone Village, the hotel, formerly Park Plaza Sherlock Holmes London, received circa £9.0 million worth of investment. Work has included the refurbishment of all 118 guest bedrooms and public areas, styled in keeping with a new brand identity, that aims to exude luxury and an up-market boutique aesthetic. Elegant and contemporary facilities will also incorporate three meeting spaces, a gym and an all day 50-cover dining destination named ‘Kitchen at Holmes’.

The solution provided by QDOS-sbl to PPHE Hotel Group sees the expansion of a privately hosted Alcatel-Lucent centralised OmniPCX platform; developed with two regional core clusters supporting the UK properties, and a separate cluster supporting the European estate. With the properties connected via an MPLS network, each hotel has a local high-availability Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise gateway and data switches installed ensuring full survivability for disaster recovery purposes.

Centralisation provides cost savings in areas such as connectivity between hotels and call charge savings, it also delivers benefits of unified communication. In addition, rationalisation of legacy ISDN Lines and the provision of SIP lines with included call bundles reduces operating costs. Previously expensive hardware maintenance contracts on legacy telephone systems have been replaced by a single maintenance programme which provides service on a full 24/7 x 365 basis. Costs have also been contained by protecting previous investment with the continued use of existing analogue guest room handsets. Whilst complementing these with the use of new feature-rich Alcatel-Lucent IP premium desk phones in business areas and Alcatel-Lucent Voice over WIFI (VoWIFI) handsets, improving communication between hotel co-workers and guests.
