QDOS Communications are very proud to have played an important part in the launch of the exciting new £50m hotel, The Tamburlaine in Cambridge, which opened its doors last month and promises to be the ‘Finest Hotel in Cambridge’.

QDOS were appointed by the Dublin based O’Callaghan Hotel Group to provide a complete IT Infrastructure and telephony solution for the new bespoke 155-bedroom hotel in Cambridge’s vibrant city centre. The hotel is the first site O’Callaghan have developed in England and their aim was for it to be “different to anything they’ve ever done before and different from anything else that’s available in Cambridge”.

They certainly appear to have fulfilled their vision with a dramatic double-height lobby, feature staircase and overlooking library, the ground floor presents four different food and drink areas all with their own unique offering. Alongside this there are five conference rooms to attract the corporate market and a library that can be hired for events.

As a new development, the hotel required a complete and totally future-proof IT infrastructure and telephone system to meet the high expectations of the discerning modern traveller. With 24 years of experience in the design, implementation and support of Telecoms, IT and internet technology solutions to the hospitality industry QDOS rose to the challenge.

The QDOS project management team oversaw installation of a Mitel MiVoice Telephone System with a hospitality interface to Oracle Property Management System and Call Accounting software. MiVoice 5320 IP Phones provide back office staff with rich communications applications and services on the desktop. MiVoice 5624 Wireless Phones are perfect for users who need to be reachable or able to access their messages throughout the hotel. Mitel MiVoice UC360 is an easy-to-use conference phone with superior audio quality plus the ability for conference delegates to seamlessly share ideas and files with in-room presentation display capabilities.

In addition, to HP ProDesk 400 Desktop Mini PC’s, and HP ProBook 450 Business Laptops, QDOS installed an HP ProLiant DL360 Core Server and HP DL380 Back Up Domain Server with Windows Server 2012, facilitating Hyper-V virtualisation. Hyper-V offers the hotel a scalable creation of a virtual (rather than physical) version of an IT environment, managing the hotels IT hardware resources so they are distributed efficiently among virtual machines. Veaam Backup Essentials was installed too, providing a powerful, user-friendly and affordable backup and availability solution for essential services to include Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory, SQL, SharePoint and Oracle.

Post completion, QDOS operates an automated monitoring and alert service notifying the ICT Helpdesk about backup and performance issues before there’s an operational impact. With complete visibility of the hotel’ virtual and backup IT infrastructures through powerful and easy-to-use monitoring and reporting tools, QDOS is able to provide the hotel with a prompt and professional maintenance support service on a 24/7 x 365 basis.

“Good communication is at the heart of every successful hotel. As such we are delighted to have worked with O’Callaghan Hotels to deploy scalable, reliable communications, optimised to meet the needs of their hotel staff, and their guests. We know that when dealing with guests, little things matter, like greeting guests by name, managing their privacy and ensuring guest services are delivered in a timely manner. QDOS’ experience in the hospitality sector enabled us to deliver a future-proof IT infrastructure and telephone system for the Tamburlaine team to manage guest experience with a minimum of fuss.”
