Leading property investment firm, Starwood Capital Group has appointed QDOS-sbl Group as the IT and Telecommunications supplier and consultant for the new YOTEL Edinburgh, due to open in July 2019.

Erskine House in Edinburgh’s Queen Street has been converted into a 276 bedroom hotel for YOTEL’s first venture in the UK, outside of London. The hotel sits in the heart of the New Town Conservation Area, within the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The seven-storey renovation follows YOTEL’s unique brand style, combining affordable luxury ‘cabin’ accommodation inspired by first class air travel, with clever space-saving techniques and technological innovation.

At ground floor level a new café and lounge bar provides active frontage to the street, creating a continuation of traditional new town urbanism. In addition to flexible meeting and co-working spaces, a multi-function club lounge/dining area will address YOTEL’s commitment to providing technological innovation, using YOTEL’s KOMYUNITI concept, a 360° digital laser projection system. KOMYUNITI is the central hub and the beating heart of YOTEL Edinburgh, a place where guests can network, socialise, relax, work, eat, drink and feel at home.



A Mitel MiVoice 3300 MXe Hospitality Telephone System installed and commissioned by QDOS-sbl will provide a scalable, reliable communications platform to offer guests a faster, more personalised service. The system incorporates small gestures that make a big difference, remembering guest names and preferences and providing timely service, whilst protecting their privacy at all times by integrating the StayNTouch innovative hospitality property management solution. The Mitel MiVoice 3300 MXe platform also allows YOTEL to simplify and accelerate their operations with communications solutions and applications that are tailored for hospitality businesses. For instance the Mitel MiVoice 3300 MXe platform will free staff from their desks using the Mitel MiCollab mobile solution that lets them serve guests, complete tasks and stay in touch while on the move. With a mobile app that’s customised for hotel processes and property features, YOTEL staff can work and communicate in real time, no matter where they are on the property, giving them freedom and flexibility to streamline workflows, reduce staff workloads and accelerate service.

QDOS-sbl will deploy Hewlett Packard servers using Hyper V technology software on which multiple virtual machines run, increasing IT agility, flexibility and scalability while making it simpler to manage and less costly to own and operate. In addition, a Hewlett Packard Core Data Network Switch Infrastructure is to be deployed. Hewlett Packard laptops and PC’s meet the needs of the front desk and back of house teams. Sophos Intercept X provides the industry’s most comprehensive endpoint protection built to stop the widest range of cyber threats. Microsoft Office 365 Business subscription service includes access to Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and online productivity and business services such as web conferencing, hosted email, and online storage. Office 365 enables YOTEL head office and hotel operations teams to work from anywhere as long as they have an internet connection. Being entirely cloud-based, they can access email, files and office programs from any location and any device.

With YOTEL offering complimentary, super-fast, free WiFi everywhere in the hotel QDOS-sbl is deploying a Ruckus WiFi infrastructure that offers guests high performance everywhere, for their wired and wireless Internet devices. With a huge number of devices competing for connections; concrete walls absorbing signals; dead spots in unexpected places that drop guests connections, Ruckus wireless access points automatically adapt for interference and other problems in real time. So guests can use more devices, in more places, with the same great connection.

YOTEL can not only connect their guests, they can connect with them from the moment they set foot on the property. Speeding up the check-in and check-out process with the traditional front desk replaced by kiosks, provided by QDOS-sbl, so guests don’t waste their time in a queue.

Recognising there is an increased desire amongst travellers to view personal devices on their bedroom TV screen, YOTEL offers a complete cloud-based TV solution provided by Nevaya. This includes Nevayacast powered by Google Chromecast, enabling the hotel to enhance their guest experience with mirrored content and wireless streaming, allowing guests to view their own device on screen to be able to enjoy Netflix, YouTube, Spotify and other TV apps.

QDOS-sbl will continue to support YOTEL Edinburgh with 24/7 managed service delivery and IT helpdesk. Cloud-based Datto Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) tools enable the technical team to deliver managed services by using a system that empowers them to focus on what matters most, delivering better service, faster on a 24/7 basis.
